An embedded system is a combination of computer hardware and software, and perhaps additional mechanical or other parts, designed to perform a dedicated function. It is of increasing significance in world markets, but the scarcity of experienced embedded systems development professionals have handicapped Hong Kong industrialists' ability to exploit high added value market potentials in embedded systems products. Hence, the establishment of ESI is aimed to seize the opportunity to train for and promote development of this technology in Hong Kong and the PRD region. ESI will provide industrial training for undergraduates, high-level training programs for experienced professionals, workshops for managers and training courses for hardware/software engineers. |
Our Objectives
- Provide elective competence development programs for HKUST students to foster their interest and to promote their knowledge on embedded systems
- Cultivate human resources in embedded systems development for HK and PRD through professional trainings and workshops
- To develop competency in embedded systems core technologies to back up the training activities, to offer advanced but economical embedded systems solutions to SMEs in HK and PRD, and to support HKUST's activities in custom ASICs and other academic needs
